Our goal is to Examine, Eliminate, and Educate.

At Action Potential Physical Therapy, we want you to return to your sporting activities, work duties, or normal daily life without being limited by pain. We do this by; Examining you from head to toe in order to identify all causes of dysfunction, Eliminating the neuromuscular miscommunication that leads to pain and limitation, and Educating you so you can avoid future injury.

Action Potential Physical Therapy is committed to giving you the highest quality care, and the one on one attention that you deserve. Every visit from your first to your last will consist of; a complete functional assessment, range of motion evaluations, neuromuscular testing, nervous and muscular system re-education, and extensive patient education. This hands-on, patient specific process gives you an individualized treatment that will maximize recovery.

Action Potential Physical Therapy believes in the importance of evidence based practice. This means you can be confident that your treatment is based on published, scientific, clinical research. Rather than using gimmicks or the latest machine to cover up your symptoms, we have developed strategies that focus on human biomechanics, anatomy, and physiology. Our evaluation and treatment philosophies are based on Clinical Neuromuscular Facilitation (CNF). This unique system is currently only offered at Action Potential Physical Therapy.

Compare Action Potential Physical Therapy to the others, and you will find…
•   We get patients better faster. In an average of three visits per diagnosis, our patients return to play, the job site, and normal daily activities.
•   We want you to experience long term functional gains, not just short term symptom relief.
•   We understand the importance of the kinetic web. By assessing your body's ability to function as a whole, we can identify underlying faults that may limit a full recovery.
•   We have an analytical approach that focuses on human physiology and biomechanics. This allows us to identify and treat the cause of your problem.
•   We focus on the individual patient vs. one size fits all protocols.
•   We are the opposite of everything you have tried before.

When pain gets old try something new… Action Potential.

What is Clinical Neuromuscular Facilitation (CNF)?

The easiest way to explain CNF to the typical patient is to say it is the opposite of conventional physical therapy, chiropractic, and massage therapy. It is a scientific evaluation and treatment strategy that is effective with patients of all ages and activity levels because it is based on human biomechanics and physiology. This means you get better faster and stay better longer.

Developed by Dr. Rhett Polka after years of education, clinical experience, reviewing hundreds of research studies and textbooks, and being inspired by innovative minds such as Gary Grey, PT, Vladimir Janda, MD, and Alan Beardall, DC, CNF will soon be the industry leader in injury prevention and rehabilitation. Rather than treating symptoms such as pain, swelling, and weakness, CNF identifies what initiates these symptoms, neuromuscular inhibition.

If we break every injury down to its smallest element, we find it begins as the lack of communication between nerve and muscle, or inhibition. When muscle becomes disconnected from the nervous system, it can no longer control joint motion and stability. This is what leads to disc herniations, ligament tears, arthritis, muscle pulls, and cartilage damage to name a few. Not only does the CNF process identify the cause of pain and injury, it treats it.

The focus of the CNF treatment is to restore normal joint motion, stability, and strength by "plugging in" the inhibited muscle. This is what restores functional ability, allowing you to return to your busy lifestyle. Once normal joint stability is restored throughout the body, you will be given specific activities to use at home that will reinforce the CNF treatment.

Rather than using typical modalities (ultrasound, electrical stimulation, traction, heat, etc.) to mask symptoms, CNF eliminates what causes them. This analytical approach allows patients to return to work or play in an average of three visits saving both time and money.

CNF's specialized biomechanical assessments and manual treatment strategies are used to treat various musculoskeletal conditions including;
•   Back injuries     •   Shoulder pain     •   Ankle sprains     •   Knee injuries     •   Foot pain
•   Fibromyalgia     •   Stroke (CVA)     •   Multiple Sclerosis     •   Post operative patients
•   Auto injuries     •   Workman's comp. cases     •   Athletic enhancement/injury prevention

Rhett Polka, PT, DPT, OCS, CSCS

A Loveland native, Dr. Polka is a physical therapist with over seven years experience specializing in orthopedics and sports medicine. He graduated from the University of Northern Colorado in 1996 with a degree in Kinesiology / Exercise Science, and earned his degree as a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) in 2000 from Slippery Rock University. Dr. Polka is a Board Certified Orthopedic Specialist (OCS), a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), and the developer of Clinical Neuromuscular Facilitation (CNF).

Early in his career, Dr. Polka began questioning and eliminating many conventional physical therapy thought processes and treatment strategies. After years of trial and error, persistent study, and practical application, Dr. Polka created Clinical Neuromuscular Facilitation. His desire to return the focus of physical therapy to the patient, and to base treatment techniques on science, concluded with the paradigm shift that is CNF.

This unique thought process and treatment tool has brought patients from across the United States to Action Potential Physical Therapy. Dr. Polka uses the innovative principals of CNF with all of his patients, regardless of age or activity level.
